Discipline Policy
All Children at Pontchartrain Preschool will
be treated with dignity and respect. We do not use any form
of corporal punishment, EVER.
Behavior techniques that are used will be used
in the following order:

Setting Limits Redirection with positive
reinforcement of correct behavior

Intervention with correction of inappropriate
behavior

Structured thinking time* (AKA time-out)

Letter in writing of inappropriate behavior
(must be signed and returned)

Phone call of inappropriate behavior and
parent/ guardian must come to center immediately

Director, Teacher, Parent, Child Conference

We ask that you willingly withdraw your
child from the Center

Termination of care
Time out periods are based upon the age of the child.
Example: He/She is 3 years old they will sit in time-out for
3 minutes. If all these behavior techniques are used within
one week, Pontchartrain Preschool reserves the right to terminate
care immediately. Our staff will make every effort to work with
parents on behavior problems. Although, we will not let other
children suffer due to behavior problems from one child.
At NO TIME will the following methods of discipline
be used:
- No child shall be subject to physical punishment, corporal
punishment, verbal abuse or threats.
- Cruel, severe, unusual, or unnecessary punishment shall
not be inflicted upon children.
- Derogatory remarks shall not be made in the presence of
children about family members of children in care or about
the children themselves.
- No child or group of children shall be allowed to discipline
another child.
- When a child is removed from the group for disciplinary
reasons, he shall never be out of the sight of a staff member.
- No child shall be deprived of meals or snacks or any part
thereof for disciplinary reasons.
